£500
£500, which is the equivalent to 0.5% of a £100,000 estate, could pay for nearly three days of counselling sessions for our patients or their bereaved relatives, including the children of our patients.
Leaving a gift in your Will is a deeply personal way to celebrate your life and values. It could be made in memory of a loved one and would provide much-needed support for a cause which is close to your heart.
You may choose to leave a gift in your Will to Phyllis Tuckwell:
Gifts in Wills are tax-free and can reduce the Inheritance Tax payable on your estate when you die.
Our legacy leaflet provides more information on writing your Will and leaving a gift in it.

People often think of gifts in Wills as large sums of money, and they can be, but many are small amounts. If you are thinking of leaving a gift in your Will, we would be so grateful for any amount that you are able to give.

£1,000, which is the equivalent to 1% of a £100,000 estate, could pay for a week’s care from one of our In-Patient Unit nurses, who each care for up to five patients.
£10,000, which is the equivalent to 10% of a £100,000 estate, could pay for a clinical nurse specialist for nearly two months, providing expert care and advice.
Gifts in Wills are a way to support a charity after you have died. You can leave a financial gift, an item, or a percentage of your estate, to a charity of your choice. When a charity knows that they will be receiving this gift in the future, they can plan ahead, knowing that their work will be funded by this generous donation.
You can leave:
All gifts of any size make a big difference to the care we are able to provide, and are greatly appreciated.
Any gifts that you leave to charity in your Will are free from Inheritance Tax. Leaving 10% or more of your net estate to a registered charity reduces the Inheritance Tax (IHT) rate on the remainder of your taxable estate from 40% to 36%.
We have joined with hospices across the UK to support Hospice UK’s TV and radio campaign, which highlights the vital care that hospices provide to people at the most difficult of times, and how gifts in Wills help fund that care.
Wendy had terminal cancer and was cared for by our Hospice at Home team.
“Phyllis Tuckwell enabled Wendy to spend her last weeks in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by her loving family,” said Robert.
“I can’t imagine what it would have been like without them. They were kind and compassionate. It felt like friends coming to the house; they never felt like strangers. We could phone them anytime and someone would help us. Because of them, all I had to worry about was giving Wendy all the love and attention she needed at the end of her life.”
The funding we receive from the NHS/government only covers around 25% of our costs, so we have to raise over £25,000 every single day to provide our care. Gifts in Wills fund the care of 1 in 5 of our patients, and this video show just how important that care is.
If you would like to find out more about leaving a gift in your Will, please do get in touch. There is no commitment to leave a gift, and if you decide that you would like to, there is no obligation to disclose the amount you decide to pledge. All discussions will be kept confidential.
