Phyllis Tuckwell Recruitment Workshop for Student Counsellors

Are you a trainee counsellor looking for a placement? Local hospice care charity Phyllis Tuckwell will be holding a Student Counsellor Recruitment Workshop on Thursday 20th June, from 9.30am to 1.30pm. Following this, the successful students will be offered a student counsellor placement with Phyllis Tuckwell, which provides supportive and end of life care for local patients and families who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer.

The Recruitment Workshop is for student counsellors in their first or second year, who are at a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma minimum (or equivalent) in Counselling. Please see the following link for information guidance on this: www.bacp.co.uk/careers/careers-in-counselling/training. Successful students will be required to attend training on Wednesday 3rd, Thursday 4th and Saturday 6th July from 9.30am to 5.30pm, additional IT and Safeguarding training at a later date, and fortnightly supervision on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

The workshop will take place at Headway House in Farnham, an office facility which Phyllis Tuckwell is using whilst it is building its new Hospice. The day will be structured into an initial meet and greet session, incorporating a brief overview of Phyllis Tuckwell and its services. Applicants will be asked to take part in small personal development groups, engage in individual skills sessions with a ‘client’ and two observers, and provide an individual written critique of a case study. There will also be an opportunity for a question-and-answer session.

Those who are offered a placement can initially expect to work with bereaved adults whose loved one was cared for by Phyllis Tuckwell. Their work and progress will be closely monitored, and as they develop as a counsellor they will progress to working with carers and possibly also patients. Phyllis Tuckwell abides by and works within the BACP ethical framework.

We are proud to offer a very supportive learning environment within our team of experienced counsellors and we take our educative role very seriously,” says Claire Tune, Trainer and Volunteer Counselling Supervisor at Phyllis Tuckwell. “We offer our students ongoing support throughout their two-year training, regular supervision with a qualified supervisor (in line with BACP requirements), provide written feedback and reports as required, and offer all students the opportunity to attend any CPD training we may hold.

If you are interested in applying to attend this event, please email [email protected] and mark your email ‘FAO Claire Tune’, to request an application form. Places are limited and attendance to the recruitment event is by invitation only. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 4pm on Friday 7th June. Successful applicants will be notified no later than 4pm on Friday 14th June.
