Health & Care Professional

As a leading healthcare charity, we’re driven by our mission: To care compassionately for adults living with a terminal illness, and those closest to them, so that they have the best possible quality of life and the patients’ final days are peaceful…because every day is precious. We are palliative care specialists providing supportive and end of life care on our In-Patient Unit in Camberley, the Beacon Centre in Guildford, in care homes and in patients’ own homes, throughout West Surrey and North East Hampshire. Our values are core to the delivery of our service and have enabled us to become highly respected in our local community. It’s an exciting time to join us as we’re currently extending our services, and are looking to resource these developments by employing the best clinical staff.

Student Counselling Placements

We are proud to offer a very supportive learning environment within our team of experienced counsellors and are looking to recruit a new cohort of student counsellors on a two year placement.

To be eligible to apply, you must have undertaken and successfully passed training in levels 1, 2 & 3 (or equivalent) in counselling skills and have been offered and commencing a Level 4 Diploma* or Foundation Degree (as a minimum) in Counselling through a recognised training institution this September. Please see this link for information guidance on this. Additionally, you must be able to attend the supervision provided by Phyllis Tuckwell on either a Tuesday or Wednesday.

We will be holding a recruitment event for interested students on Saturday 4th November 2023 from 9.30am to 2pm. This event will be structured into meet and greet, incorporating a brief overview of Phyllis Tuckwell and our services. Applicants can also expect to engage in small personal development groups, individual skills sessions with a ‘client’ and two observers and an individual written critique of a case study.  There will also be opportunity for Q&A.

Those who are offered a placement can initially expect to work with bereaved adults whose loved one was cared for at Phyllis Tuckwell. Their work and progress will be closely monitored, and as they develop as a counsellor they will progress to working with carers and possibly also patients. Phyllis Tuckwell abides by and works within the BACP ethical framework.

If you are interested in applying to attend this event, please email [email protected] and mark your email ‘FAO Claire Tune’, to request an application form.  Places for this event are limited and the closing date for receipt of completed applications is 4pm on Friday 20th October. Attendance is by invitation only and successful applicants will notified by 5pm on Friday 10th November. Successful candidates will be asked to attend training on Saturdays 6th, 13th and 20th January 2024, and additional IT training.
