Nearly 1,000 vehicles registered to come along to Phyllis Tuckwell’s Motor Show on Sunday 11th August, the hottest day of the year! The event raised a fantastic £50,000 for the local Hospice Care charity, which provides supportive and end of life care for patients and families who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer or motor neurone disease.
The show included a huge variety of vehicles which their exhibitors brought along to display on the day. They ranged from pre-war to post-2000 vehicles and included cars, motorbikes, Army vehicles, camper vans and bubble cars. The show was hosted at a wonderful private venue in Churt, whose owners Robert and Tanya Lewis also kindly opened up their own personal collection of over 60 pristine classic cars from 1903 to the present day, including the fastest car in the world, plus over 100 petrol pumps and thousands of pieces of memorabilia. Vizion Insurance Brokers kindly sponsored the event and also attended, bringing with them some incredible cars from The Four Marks Supercar Club.
An F1 simulator with three screens provided a driving simulation thrill in exchange for a donation to Phyllis Tuckwell, with the fastest laps being logged, which gave the game a competitive edge! Music was provided by The Farleys, who got people up and dancing, and a refreshments tent and vendors sold a variety of delicious foods. There was a lovely atmosphere to the day, which many people there commented on.
Towards the end of the show, prizes were awarded to exhibitors for a variety of categories, including the People’s Choice award - kindly sponsored by Vizion Insurance Brokers – for which attendees could choose their favourite car of the day.
“We were thrilled to be invited back to this stunning venue for another year’s Motor Show and would like to say a huge thank you to Robert and Tanya Lewis, who also so generously opened up their incredible private collection for the show,” said Laura Moody, events manager at Phyllis Tuckwell. “Those who attended were amazed at the wonderful vehicles and motoring memorabilia on display, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing it all. We would also like to thank Vizion Insurance Brokers for kindly sponsoring the Motor Show and for joining us with Four Marks Supercar Club. We would also like to thank Tom Lenthall Ltd, Tuning 4 Performance, Paul Fitchett from Paul Fitchett Images for taking photos on the day, and our amazing volunteers without whom we wouldn’t have been able to run the show. Many of the people there told us how much they enjoyed the day and how wonderful the volunteers were. So many people were involved in helping to organise this fantastic event – we would like to thank them all for their generosity in giving their time and effort to help make it such a success.”
£50,000 could cover the cost of the whole of Phyllis Tuckwell’s Living Well service for almost a month. Supporting around 630 patients a year, Living Well offers medical and nursing care, therapies, social work advice, pastoral care and counselling, through individual appointments and group sessions. Activities such as confidence through cooking, therapy through nature and mindfulness with clay help reduce patients’ stress and anxiety, boost confidence and improve wellbeing, while discussions on topics such as keeping active, managing stress and getting a good night’s sleep can help with symptom control.
"We are delighted to have been invited back to hold our Motor Show at Robert and Tanya's incredible collection for 2025,” continued Laura Moody. "Keep an eye on our website www.pth.org.uk for further details!”
