Phyllis Tuckwell's annual Open Gardens event has raised a wonderful £30,644 for local hospice care, thanks to the talented and generous supporters who kindly opened their gardens for the event.

From May to August, over 40 gardens across West Surrey and North East Hampshire welcomed family, friends and the local community to wander around these beautiful green spaces. Some opened individually, while others joined with neighbours for group open garden days, such as in Churt, Shamley Green and Busbridge, where visitors could walk from garden to garden within each village, enjoying the variety of green spaces on display.
The gardens ranged from larger plots with woodlands, orchards, ponds, streams and far-reaching views, to smaller spaces bursting with creative ideas for a smaller plot. With tropical pergolas, ornamental grasses, a superb cactus collection and vegetable gardens which showed the wide range of foods which can be grown and harvested, the gardens were both stunning to browse around and engaging for those looking for inspiration for their own outside spaces. Refreshments, including tea and cakes, were on sale at many of the gardens, and some also offered a range of plants for sale. All proceeds from entry fees, refreshments and plant sales went directly to Phyllis Tuckwell, raising this fantastic total of £30,644. This money will help Phyllis Tuckwell to provide its specialist palliative and end of life care for local patients and families living with an advanced or terminal illness. Every day it supports over 250 patients, relatives and carers, but as the NHS/Government usually only covers around 25% of its costs, it has to raise over £30,000 every single day to do this.
Phyllis Tuckwell is currently recruiting gardens for the 2027 Open Gardens season. If you would like to open your garden to the local community, or just to family and friends if you prefer, find out more and sign up at www.pth.org.uk/open-gardens or email fundraising@pth.org.uk
