Local Hospice Care charity Phyllis Tuckwell is looking for volunteers to join its retail team, which sells donated preloved items to raise money to help fund its care.
Phyllis Tuckwell supports over 250 local patients, relatives and carers every day, providing vital palliative and end of life care on its In-Patient Unit, through its Living Well sessions and in patients’ own homes and care homes. However, as the NHS/Government only cover 25% of its costs, it has to raise over £25,000 every day to do this.
The charity has 18 shops across West Surrey and North-East Hampshire, which sell good quality preloved items that have been donated by its generous supporters. Many stock clothes, shoes, accessories, books, DVDs, games and household items, and its Retail Centre in Farnborough regularly hosts kilo sales where shoppers can bag a kilo of clothes, shoes and accessories for just £7.50! Its Furniture Showroom in Farnham specialises in larger items, with everything you might need to furnish your home, from bookcases and dressers to tables, chairs and sofas, plus a wide range of throws, cushions and pictures to give that personal touch.
Alongside the Showroom is the charity’s main Donation Centre, where supporters can drop off quality preloved items for the team to sort, price and sell. Both the Furniture Showroom and the Donation Centre are looking for more volunteers, so if you have a few hours to spare, and would like to join a friendly and welcoming team, helping a vital local cause, then this could be just the thing for you!
As a volunteer, you’ll take and sort through new donations, price stock ready to be sold, and chat to and serve customers. It's a social role and you’ll meet new people every day, get to know the local community, and really feel that you’re making a difference.
“Our retail volunteers are so important in helping us to raise the money we need to be able to provide our care,” said Julia Morpeth, voluntary services manager at Phyllis Tuckwell. “They bring a great range of knowledge and skills to our organisation, and we provide them with ongoing support and training to enable them to learn and develop within their role.”
