Are you looking to push yourself in 2025? If your new year’s resolution is to see what amazing things you can achieve, why not start by signing up for one of Phyllis Tuckwell’s inspiring challenges and raise vital money for local Hospice Care!
Whether you’re a keen cyclist or an enthusiastic amateur, Pedal to Paris will test your stamina. Taking place from 10th to 13th September, it will see participants cycle 333km, from Farnham to Paris, to help fund Phyllis Tuckwell’s new Hospice. This state-of-the-art building will enable the charity to provide its specialist palliative and end of life care for thousands of local people every year, who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer.
The route will take you to Lewes and Newhaven, on a ferry to Dieppe, and through Forges-les-Eaux and Cergy to Paris, on a mixture of level stretches and rolling hills. Once you’ve arrived, your bike will be taken back to Farnham while you enjoy the sights!
The event has been organised by Cycle4Good (C4G), who will accompany riders throughout, providing directions, support, bike maintenance and spare parts. Phyllis Tuckwell has space for up to 40 cyclists and needs to recruit a minimum number by 31st January, so sign up now at www.pth.org.uk/pedal-to-paris or email pedaltoparis@pth.org.uk to find out more. Each cyclist must raise a minimum sponsorship of £2,000 (self-funding options are available). Included are four nights’ accommodation in a shared room (with the option of paying for a single room), the ferry crossing to France, food (except any that you purchase on the ferry), soft drinks, snacks and water during the day, transportation of your bike back to Farnham, support team, basic mechanical support and spare parts, and a Phyllis Tuckwell branded cycling jersey.
If cycling’s not for you, how about a skydive? You’ll reach freefall speeds of over 120mph, before your instructor deploys the parachute and you relax into the gentle five-minute descent to your landing zone. Run by the Army Parachute Association at the Skydive Centre in Wiltshire, these adrenaline-pumping challenges will be held on 22nd March, 8th June and 27th September, with a £50 registration fee and minimum sponsorship of £450 per person.
If you'd prefer to keep your feet on the ground, you could sign up for the beautiful Surrey half or full marathon, the fantastically fun Guildford Inflatable 5K, the challenging Tough Mudder, or even an international marathon.
