The team at Phyllis Tuckwell would like to say a big thank you to everyone at SC Johnson’s local office in Frimley, whose generous donation to the New Hospice appeal has helped fund a special Family Room on the In-Patient Unit there.

The Hospice’s Family Room is dedicated to the needs of the families whose loved ones are staying on the In-Patient Unit for symptom management or end of life care. It provides a relaxed and welcoming space away from the more clinical areas of the Hospice, where families, including those with young children, can take some time for themselves. It includes a small kitchen area, an en-suite, a table and chairs, a TV, games, and doors which open out onto a beautiful private courtyard garden area.
As well as giving family members a place which is separate from their loved one’s room, the Family Room is also beneficial for patients too. Knowing that their loved ones are being cared for is very comforting. It can ease any worries patients may have about their loved ones and contribute to improving patients' overall wellbeing.
“The Family Room is such an amazing space,” said Theresa Eckley, deputy director for nursing and quality at Phyllis Tuckwell. “It's so well used. The families of our patients think it's brilliant. It relieves the stress for them, at what really can be a very stressful time."
