“This is the best thing I have ever done!” said one of 17 skydivers who have raised a huge £18,000 for local Hospice Care charity Phyllis Tuckwell.
17 fundraisers took part in the skydive to raise money to support Phyllis Tuckwell.
The sponsored skydive took place at the UK’s largest skydiving drop zone in Netheravon, Wiltshire, and was run by the Army Parachute Association. After their training session, these fantastic fundraisers boarded a plane which took them to 12,000ft. Each was attached to an experienced tandem instructor and prepared to make the jump! Their initial freefall took them to speeds in excess of 120 mph, after which their instructors deployed their canopies for the final 5,000ft, taking them on a much gentler five-minute descent to their designated landing zone.
“The weather was perfect for a skydive, it was amazing - the one good day that week!” said Fiona Chapman, events fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell. “£18,000 is a fantastic amount of money to raise, and could cover the cost of nearly five months’ care from one of our In-Patient Unit nurses. These specialist nurses offer expert palliative care to patients who are in their last days of life, and each nurse cares for up to five patients. We still have sponsorship money coming in, so this incredible total is set to rise even further!”
