160 walkers came along to Phyllis Tuckwell’s beautiful summer sunset walk to remember loved ones on Saturday 21st June, raising vitally important funds to help support local Hospice Care.

Held at the stunning Hampton Estate near Seale, the walk took place on the longest day of the year. Participants walked the 5-mile route with family or friends in memory of someone special to them, with many carrying small battery-operated tea light lanterns as a special symbol of a loved one who was being remembered. Because the weather was so hot, volunteer Phyllis Tuckwell marshals offered refreshing sprays of water to walkers along the way, which were very well received. The walk started at 7pm and participants finished as the sun set over the beautiful Surrey countryside. Afterwards, they were each given well deserved drinks and a bag of tasty treats, including a Krispy Kreme doughnut, to sit and enjoy together.
“We’d like to thank everyone who came along to our sunset walk and really helped to make it an evening to remember,” said Ruth Masters, fundraising manager at Phyllis Tuckwell. “All of the money raised will go directly towards helping fund the important palliative and end of life care that we provide for local patients and families living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer. We would also like to thank the owners of the Hampton Estate for hosting the event and including some of the estate’s private land in the routes, the Rapid Relief Team for their support towards providing the tasty treats for participants, as well as NTT Data and Savill’s for their support of this event.”
Every day, Phyllis Tuckwell supports over 250 patients, relatives and carers, through medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support, but as the NHS/Government only covers around 25% of its costs, it has to raise over £25,000 every day to do this.
