This year’s London Marathon was the largest marathon in history, with over 56,000 runners taking part. 20 of those were running in aid of local Hospice Care charity Phyllis Tuckwell, who would like to say a huge well done and thank you to them all.
The marathon took place on Sunday 27th April, and saw thousands of people flocking to cheer on the participants. All of the money raised by Phyllis Tuckwell’s runners will go directly towards helping fund the palliative and end of life care that it provides for patients and families living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer, in West Surrey and North-East Hampshire. As the NHS/Government only cover 25% of its costs, it has to raise over £25,000 every day to be able to offer all of its services.
“Our team of 20 all did amazingly,” said Fiona Chapman, events fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell. “The weather was not ideal for a marathon, which made it even more of a challenge. Every person on our team had their own very personal reasons for why they chose to run for Phyllis Tuckwell, and we would like to say a big thank you to them all.”
