A huge thank you to Phyllis Tuckwell supporter Owen Loynes, who has driven his 1997 Mazda MX5 MK1 – named Miko – on a road trip around the UK in memory of his father, Mervyn, to raise money for local hospice care.

Owen and Miko set off on 31st August and visited every location featured in the Xbox game Forza Horizon 4, including the midlands, the lake district, Scotland and Wales, before heading back down south to finish on 6th September. Accompanying them was Owen’s friend and photographer/videographer, Luke, who created and streamed daily mini movies of their journey. They also had Top Gear style challenges to complete along the way, set by a friend, and with no support car they had to deal with any problems they encountered on their own!
“I chose Phyllis Tuckwell because of how well they treated my father before he passed away, and the support they gave me growing up,” said Owen. “This charity truly does mean the world to me. The challenge was a huge undertaking and a step out of my comfort zone, but it was an incredible experience full of amazing memories. The donations I’ve received have been super heartwarming, and I’d like to thank everyone for their amazing support.”
Owen has raised a fantastic £1,500 from this road trip, all of which will go directly towards helping Phyllis Tuckwell provide its expert palliative and end of life care for patients and families living with an advanced or terminal illness, in West Surrey and North East Hampshire. Its support helps them to live as well as possible for as long as possible, with comfort and dignity, but as the NHS/Government usually only covers around 25% of its costs, it has to raise over £30,000 every single day to provide this care.
