New Year, Face Your Fear - for Phyllis

Face a fear this new year and raise money for Hospice Care!

Local charity Phyllis Tuckwell is holding sponsored abseil and skydive days in 2026 to help fund the palliative and end of life care it provides for patients and families living with an advanced or terminal illness. Could you be one of its fearless fundraisers?

Abseiller on Spinnaker Tower

Its abseil will take place at the iconic Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, on Sunday 19th April. You’ll be kitted out in safety gear by a team of experts before being taken up in the high-speed lift – travelling at 4m per second – to the viewing platform. Here, at 100m above sea level, your harness will be attached to a safety line and you’ll be ready to go! Take a moment to sit back and let the harness take your weight as you enjoy the incredible views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight, and then abseil down to the cheers of those watching. It’ll be a day to remember!

Two people skydiving

If 100m isn’t high enough, how about a skydive? These high-adrenaline jumps will take place on Saturday 28th March, Sunday 7th June and a date in September to be confirmed, at the UK’s largest skydiving drop zone, in Netheravon, Wiltshire. You’ll be in the safe hands of the Army Parachute Association, who will take you through the safety training and attach you to one of their experienced tandem instructors. You’ll board the aircraft and climb to 12,000 feet, where you’ll take the leap and freefall at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour, before your instructor deploys the parachute and you begin your gentle descent to the landing zone.

“Our abseil and skydive days are a great way to take on a new challenge and raise money to help people who really need our care,” said Fiona Chapman, event fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell. “Every day we provide medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support to over 250 patients, relatives and carers. However, as the NHS/Government only cover around 25% of our costs, we have to raise over £30,000 every single day, and fundraising days like this are really important in helping us do that.”

Sign up now to kick-start your new year, and start getting sponsored! Phyllis Tuckwell also has lots of other fundraising events throughout the year, so if heights aren’t your thing keep an eye on its website over the next few months to see what else you could join in with! www.pth.org.uk/news-and-events/events/upcoming-events

Please help us

All our services are free, but this is only possible due to the generosity of our amazing community. The Government/NHS only provide 25% of our costs, so we need to raise over £30,000 every day to provide our vital services.

Please donate what you can to help keep hospice care available to all those in our community who need us.
