Impressive Motor Show Draws Crowds to Support Hospice Care

Over 2,500 people came along to Phyllis Tuckwell’s fantastic Motor Show on Sunday 3rd August. Held at an exclusive venue in Churt, the event raised just over £41,500 to help local charity Phyllis Tuckwell provide its vital Hospice Care.

525 exhibitor vehicles were on show, including a variety of motor bikes, campervans, a fire engine from 1914, and cars from 1911 through to 2025. Event hosts, Robert & Tanya Lewis, once again kindly displayed their magnificent collection of over 60 pristine classic cars, over 100 petrol pumps, and thousands of pieces of motoring memorabilia, including a Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut sports car! These, along with the incredible range of vehicles which other enthusiasts had brought along, made the day an unmissable one for anyone with a love of motor vehicles. Trophies were awarded to category winning cars, and there was a People’s Choice award which was voted for by attendees, who chose the Nissan Skyline GTR 34. Phyllis Tuckwell’s pop up shop was there too, and was visited by many of the attendees, and there were also other stalls to browse, including an autojumble. Music by local band Los Doritos, refreshments including pizzas, a BBQ, wraps, and ice cream, along with a raffle and silent auction, made this a great day out - and everyone enjoyed the warm, sunny weather.

“Our Motor Show was a really wonderful day, and we’d like to thank everyone who came along to exhibit their vehicles and see the amazing display on show,” said Ruth Masters, fundraising manager at Phyllis Tuckwell. “Our thanks also go to Sandown Mercedes-Benz, Tuning 4 Performance, Elmbank Mortgages and Paul Fitchett Images for their support, and of course to Robert and Tanya Lewis for so generously enabling us to host the show at their venue and for including their motor collection in the exhibition.”

All of the money raised will go directly towards helping fund the palliative and end of life care which Phyllis Tuckwell provides for local patients and families living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer. £41,500 is enough to cover the cost of its entire In-Patient Unit (IPU) for nearly four days. With 10 beds in single, ensuite rooms, the IPU offers 24-hour care to patients who need symptom management support or end of life care. Knowing their loved one is receiving specialist, compassionate medical, nursing and therapeutic care is hugely reassuring for their friends and relatives.

“Having Ann admitted to the IPU was like a load being lifted off our shoulders,” said Mark, whose mum Ann we cared for. “We were able to get back to being her family, as opposed to just being her carers.”

Please help us

All our services are free, but this is only possible due to the generosity of our amazing community. The Government/NHS only provide 25% of our costs, so we need to raise over £25,000 every day to provide our vital services.

Please donate what you can to help keep hospice care available to all those in our community who need us.
