Hankley Common Golf Club, in Tilford, recently hosted a fundraising golf day, raising over £20,000 for local Hospice Care charity Phyllis Tuckwell.
88 golfers took part in the fundraising day, which took place on Wednesday 24th September. They were welcomed with coffee and a bacon roll, before a shotgun start commenced play. Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive competitions were included, and the morning was rounded off with a two-course lunch, after which the winners were announced and were presented with their prizes.
Hankley Common Golf Club has supported Phyllis Tuckwell through its annual golf day for many years. All of the money raised by the event goes directly towards helping fund the vital palliative and end of life care that Phyllis Tuckwell provides for local patients and families who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer. Every day, it supports over 250 patients, relatives and carers, on its In-Patient Unit, through its Living Well sessions, and in patients’ own homes and care homes across West Surrey and North-East Hampshire. However, as the NHS/Government only covers around 25% of its costs, it has to raise over £25,000 every single day to do this, and therefore relies heavily on the support and generosity of the local community.
“We’d like to thank Hankley Common Golf Club for once again hosting this very popular event,” said Fiona Chapman, event fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell. “£20,000 is a fantastic amount of money, which could cover the cost of our Living Well service for nearly eight days. This service supports around 520 patients a year, offering compassionate nursing care, individual and group physiotherapy and occupational therapy sessions, advice on benefits and entitlements, carer support, and two eight-week programmes which provide information and creative activities to help patients manage living everyday life with their illness.”
