Gifts in Wills Vital for Funding Future Hospice Care

A two-week TV and radio advertising campaign, highlighting the importance of gifts in Wills in helping fund hospice care, will launch on 16th February.

The national campaign, ‘This is Hospice Care’, is led by Hospice UK, and Phyllis Tuckwell is one of the many local hospice care organisations who are taking part. The advert shows how their vital care helps people who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer, to live life as fully as possible for as long as they have. It is hoped that the campaign will dispel some of the misconceptions around hospice care and raise awareness of the vital role of gifts in Wills.

Being diagnosed with an advanced or terminal illness, or supporting a loved one who has been diagnosed, is heart-breaking. Knowing that Phyllis Tuckwell is there to provide specialist care can seem like a light in the darkness. Every day, it supports over 250 patients, relatives and carers, on its In-Patient Unit, through its Living Well sessions and in patients’ own homes and care homes across West Surrey and North-East Hampshire. However, as NHS/government funding only covers around 25% of its costs, it has to raise over £25,000 every single day to do this.

“Gifts in Wills are a deeply personal way to support us and are often made in memory of a loved one we have cared for,” said Hannah Robins, legacy officer at Phyllis Tuckwell.  “They currently pay for the care of 1 in 5 of our patients, so their importance really cannot be overstated. As well as being given in memory, in gratitude and as an investment in future hospice care, gifts in Wills are tax-free and can reduce the Inheritance Tax payable on people’s estates when they die. Should you choose to leave a gift to us in your Will, no matter how large or small, it will help us to build financial security, grow our services, and reach more people who need our help.”

By 2040, deaths in our community will have risen by 25%, and the number of people needing palliative care will have doubled by 2060. Phyllis Tuckwell is currently building a new state-of-the-art Hospice on its existing site in Farnham, which will enable it to care for more people who need its support in the future. Gifts in Wills help so much in securing this future care, enabling Phyllis Tuckwell to plan ahead, knowing that, in years to come, its services will be funded by these generous donations.

This is Hospice Care. Help it live on for all, for now, forever. To find out more about how to leave a gift in your Will, please visit www.pth.org.uk/gifts-in-wills, call Phyllis Tuckwell’s legacy officer, Hannah Robins, on 01252 221783 or email hannah.robins@pth.org.uk

Please help us

All our services are free, but this is only possible due to the generosity of our amazing community. The Government/NHS only provide 25% of our costs, so we need to raise over £25,000 every day to provide our vital services.

Please donate what you can to help keep hospice care available to all those in our community who need us.
