Open Gardens is an annual event in Phyllis Tuckwell’s calendar. Taking place throughout the spring and summer months, it invites people to open their gardens, either individually or as a group, to family, friends or the public, in return for a donation to support the palliative and end of life care that Phyllis Tuckwell provides. The Badshot Lea Bloomers opened their community garden to the public on Sunday 5th July, and described it as a highlight of their year.
The Badshot Lea Bloomers are volunteers who run a friendly community garden in Badshot Lea, Farnham. The group is dedicated to connecting people, promoting a sense of belonging, providing educational opportunities, and improving physical and mental health and wellbeing. The green-fingered volunteers worked hard to prepare the garden for visitors, and local supporters generously donated cakes and tombola prizes to help make the day even more of a success. The event attracted not only locals but also visitors from the wider area, and raised an amazing £1,046. The proceeds were due to be split equally between the Community Garden and Phyllis Tuckwell, but the Badshot Lea Bloomers kindly unanimously agreed to donate £1,000 of it to Phyllis Tuckwell.
“We’re so grateful to the Badshot Lea Bloomers for this incredibly kind donation, and for putting so much hard work and dedication into preparing their beautiful garden for this event,” said Helena Burke, community fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell. “£1,000 is enough to pay for a week’s care from one of our In-Patient Unit nurses, who each care for up to five patients and support their loved ones too.”
The Badshot Lea Bloomers’ community garden is open on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 1pm, and everyone is welcome. Visit www.facebook.com/BLBCG1 to find out more.
