26 gardens took part in Phyllis Tuckwell’s Open Gardens campaign this summer, raising a fabulous £16,645 for local Hospice Care!
From June to September, gardens across West Surrey and North-East Hampshire swung open their gates for friends, neighbours and other garden lovers to enjoy these wonderful green spaces, all to raise money for Phyllis Tuckwell. The gardens ranged in size, from smaller spaces with pots bursting with colourful flowers and patios well-placed to catch the sun, to larger expanses that encompassed glorious wildflower meadows and woodlands. Visitors paid an entry fee, and many garden owners also sold plants and refreshments, and even held raffles, all to raise even more money for Phyllis Tuckwell.
“We would like to say a big thank you to all those who so generously opened their beautiful gardens this summer to raise money for local Hospice Care,” said Helena Burke, community fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell. “Together they have raised a wonderful £16,645, which is enough to fund the care from one of our clinical nurse specialists (CNSs) for over three months. Our CNSs are often the first of our team to meet with new patients. They assess patients’ needs and refer them on to the most appropriate support within Phyllis Tuckwell, such as our Living Well service, or perhaps physiotherapy or counselling, for example. They also assess patients’ carers needs to determine whether they need any additional practical or emotional support.”
