Phyllis Tuckwell would like to say a huge well done and thank you to the amazing Ben Johnson, who raised money for the Hospice Care charity by taking part in a 100km mountain ultra race through the Alps.
The CCC (Courmayeur - Champex-Lac - Chamonix) race started on 29th August and took runners through the alpine peaks of Italy, Switzerland and France, around the Mont Blanc massif. Ben chose to run in aid of two charities - Phyllis Tuckwell, and The Aortic Dissection Trust.
Phyllis Tuckwell provides palliative and end of life care for patients, families and carers who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, and its team are currently caring for Ben’s friend who has motor neurone disease. As the NHS/Government only cover around 25% of its costs, it has to raise over £25,000 every single day to be able to offer all of its services, which are given free of charge to its patients and their loved ones.
“We’re so grateful to Ben for choosing to raise money for local Hospice Care, and so impressed that he has taken on this incredible challenge!” said Helena Burke, community fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell. “We’re reliant on our local community to help us raise the money we need to continue providing our vital care, and we’d like to thank everyone who has sponsored Ben and contributed to raising this amazing amount of money.”
"Although I’m an experienced trail runner, I knew the CCC was going push me to my limits,” said Ben. "I had also taken part in 2023 but had to drop out at the halfway point. To give me extra motivation this year, and to acknowledge the scale of the challenge, I decided to fundraise for two causes that were personally important to me. I have a close friend who has motor neurone disease, who Phyllis Tuckwell are doing an amazing job of supporting as he experiences physical deterioration. I wanted to recognise the work they are doing so they can continue to help others in similar situations."
