Understanding and Managing Bereavement, Loss & Change

Course aims

  • To help colleagues recognise and understand the impact and effect of a terminal diagnosis / loss for the patient and their loves ones, and our colleagues alike.

 

Learning outcomes

  • Understand the wider losses resulting from terminal illness for the patient and family.
  • Understand the losses and impact of bereavement and how it affects people differently and why.
  • Recognise and understand the feelings and behaviours associated with loss.
  • Understand the grieving process.
  • Understand how to support a grieving person.
  • Recognise helpful and unhelpful communication with a grieving person.
  • Understand how to care for yourself as the professional.
