End of Life Care for People with Dementia

This innovative day-long course is designed especially for care home staff by the UCL Partners End of Life Team. The day will follow Lily's story, while exploring a range of issues that may be experienced at end of life.

Course aims

  • To support care home staff to deliver best practice end of life care for residents with dementia in their final months, weeks and days of life.

Learning outcomes

  • The Education team at Phyllis Tuckwell will use their expertise to support learning in this topic to include:
  • Compassionate care of a resident with dementia and those important to the resident.
  • Communication and documentation of wishes/recommendations on what to do should the resident deteriorate.
  • The importance of using this documentation in a situation when the resident deteriorates, to avoid a hospital admission.
  • Recognition when a resident with dementia is reaching the last days of life.
  • Communication with the resident, those important to the resident, and other staff in the last days of life.
  • Compassionate care in the last days of life.
