Palliative and End of Life Care Programme (April to May 2026)

Course aims

Day 1 and 2:

  • In line with the National End of Life Care Strategy, to enable further development of knowledge, skills and confidence to communicate sensitively and effectively with regard to End of Life Care and Advance Care Planning (ACP).

Day 3 and 4:

  • To develop the knowledge and skills to assess and manage common symptoms of patients with progressive disease near the end of life.
  • To enhance an understanding of how the Gold Standards Framework assists with pro-active assessment and management.

Day 5 and 6:

  • To recognise when change and deterioration indicates the need for re-appraisal of treatment, clinical management and support, taking into account the individual's priorities and goals to tailor care to the needs of the individual and carer.
  • To further develop knowledge and skills to influence a dignified life and death, supporting choice and respect for the dying person.
