19 high-fliers took on Phyllis Tuckwell’s newest fundraising event on Saturday 11th March –flying 60mph along a zipline 100m off the ground! The Zipline day took place at Hangloose Adventure in Bluewater and, although cold, the weather stayed dry and clear, making it a fantastic experience for everyone there.
“It was brilliant!” said one participant, “I’d definitely recommend others to take part next time,” with another commenting “wow, what an experience!”
All 19 participants were sponsored to take on the zipline and are estimated to have raised a total of around £5,000 between them! This amazing amount of money will all go directly to Phyllis Tuckwell, and will help fund the supportive and end of life care that it provides for local people who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer. Every day it supports over 250 patients, relatives and carers, but as the NHS/Government usually only covers about 20% of its costs, it has to raise over £25,000 a day to do this. £5,000 is enough to pay for over a month’s care from one of its occupational therapists, who help patients to continue participating in their daily activities, focussing on what matters most to each individual patient and helping them to manage any symptoms that impact on their independence and quality of life.
“We would like to thank all of our amazing participants who braved the zipline to raise vital money to help fund our care,” said Fiona Chapman, Events Fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell. “It was quite spectacular to see them fly along the line, and we’re so pleased they had such a brilliant time taking part.”
