Local hospice care charity Phyllis Tuckwell is offering you the chance to get the year off to a great start, by winning £2,023 in its Win 2023 Super Draw! Phyllis Tuckwell’s raffles are an important way for the charity to raise money to help fund the vital care and support that it offers to local people who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer. Every day it cares for over 250 patients, relatives and carers, offering medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support, but as the NHS/Government usually only covers about 20% of its costs, it has to raise over £25,000 a day to do this.
“Our raffles each raise around £26,000,” said Claire McDonald, Individual Giving Manager at Phyllis Tuckwell. “This huge amount of money is enough to pay for one of our Hospice Care at Home nurses for almost eight months.”
Phyllis Tuckwell’s Hospice Care at Home nurses visit patients who are spending their last days at home, instead of in hospital or at the Hospice – like Yvonne’s husband Don.
“There are no words to describe how much those visits meant to both of us,” said Yvonne. “The care they provided was second to none – they were totally amazing. They were so kind, and they really looked after my husband.”
