Steve & Janey's Story

Steve’s wife Janey was cared for by Phyllis Tuckwell and in 2020 he started an epic set of challenges to raise money for us.

Delayed slightly due to the pandemic, Steve is now continuing what he started and is using 2022 to raise as much money as he can.

Between April and September, Steve will complete three cycling sportives, five 10k runs, four triathlons and two swimming races, and will top it all off by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro! All of the challenges are sponsored events, and Steve is hoping to raise as much money as he can for Phyllis Tuckwell, which provides supportive and end of life care for local patients and families who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer.

“In 2016, my beautiful wife Janey was diagnosed with breast cancer,” says Steve. “She went through treatment, but in 2017 we were told that the cancer was back and this time it was incurable. My incredible wife is still fighting, but we know we don’t have much time left. Janey has now been referred to Phyllis Tuckwell to help manage her symptoms, and they will be with us now until she leaves us.”

“We would like to thank Steve for taking on this incredible number of challenges to raise money to help fund our care,” said Samantha West, Community Fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell. “As the NHS/Government only covers 20% of our costs, we have to raise over £20,000 a day to be able to offer all our services, which we give free of charge to our patients and their families. Every penny that Steve raises will help us, and we are very grateful for his support.”
