Rocking Out for Hospice Care

It was a weekend of music, dancing and picnics at the 10th Music in the Park, which was organised by the Rotary Club of Farnborough and held in aid of local charity Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care. Over 5,000 people came to the weekend-long music festival, enjoying amazing performances from three fantastic tribute acts and some smooth, soulful Motown classics, accompanied by dazzling dance moves and a special guest performance from chart-toppers Hot Chocolate!

The festival was held over Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July, with Saturday seeing performances from three renowned tribute acts. First to the stage were The Backbeat Beatles. Direct from Liverpool, the fab four took the audience from the Beatles’ early years through to the Sgt Pepper era, complete with full Sgt. Pepper regalia, and sang hits including ‘Love Me Do’ and ‘Hey Jude’. Following them was the fantastic T.Rextasy. Described by many as ‘beyond the boundaries of tribute’, the band rocked the stage with T. Rex hits including ‘20th Century Boy’ and ‘Get It On’. Madness tribute act The Los Palmas 6 rounded off the evening with hits from the early days right up to today, including ‘House of Fun’ ‘It Must Be Love’ and ‘Baggy Trousers’, as well as tracks from the latest Madness album ‘The Liberty of Norton Folgate’.

On Sunday, The Magic of Motown took to the stage. Celebrating the sound of a generation, they sang hits from the likes of Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Supremes, The Jackson 5 and Smokey Robinson. Glittering costume changes and impressive dance moves added to an outstanding show, which was topped off by a special guest performance from chart-toppers Hot Chocolate, who joined the band to sing tracks including the hugely popular ‘You Sexy Thing’!

“We are thrilled that this year’s Music in the Park was such a huge success,” said Laura Moody, Events Fundraising Manager at Phyllis Tuckwell. “2019 is an important year for us, as it is Phyllis Tuckwell’s 40th anniversary, The Rotary Club of Farnborough’s 60th anniversary and the 10th Music in the Park! We would like to thank the Rotary Club of Farnborough for once again organising such an amazing event in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell, and all of the supporting local Rotary Clubs who volunteered to help over the weekend. Our thanks also go to the event’s sponsors: TAG Farnborough Airport, Village Hotel, Rio Homes & Estates, Branston Adams, RM Carpets, Davies, Blunden & Evans and Blucando, and of course a huge thank you to all of our volunteers who gave their time to help out. We couldn’t do it without you!”
