What better way to make the most of those warm summer evenings than
sitting out in the open air with friends and popcorn to watch a classic film?
Well, with Phyllis Tuckwell’s Summer
Cinema Nights you can do just that! To celebrate its 40th anniversary this year, the local charity is bringing two iconic and hugely popular
films to the big outdoors. Join them at Merrist Wood College and enjoy
cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture
Show on Saturday 24th August, and the teen rebellion musical Footloose on Sunday 25th August.
“We are thrilled to introduce our new Summer Cinema Nights fundraising
event,” said Gemma Jones, Events Fundraising Manager at Phyllis Tuckwell
Hospice Care. “These two unmissable films are known to everyone and have a big
following. We hope all who come along enjoy being able to watch them out in the
open air, in the beautiful setting of Merrist Wood.”
All of the money raised by these Summer Cinema Nights will
go directly towards helping fund the supportive and end of life care which
Phyllis Tuckwell provides for local patients and families who are living with
an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer. As the NHS/Government only covers 20% of its costs, it
has to raise over £20,000 a day to be able to offer all of its services, which
are given free of charge to its patients and their families.
Tickets are on sale now priced £15 each and fancy dress is welcome! You
can bring along your own food and drink, or buy refreshments at the bar on the
night. Gates will open at 7pm, and the films will start at approximately
8.30pm. Please note, both films carry a BBFC rating of 15 and are therefore not
suitable for anyone under the age of 15. Anyone deemed to be under this age
will be refused entry.
