Phyllis Tuckwell Bowled Over By Club’s Support

Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care has recently received a cheque for £709 from the Bourne Bowls Club, who raised the money through their 23rd annual ladies’ ‘Powder Puff’ day.

Held on Saturday 10th August, the ‘Powder Puff’ day saw ladies from bowls clubs across Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex take part in a bowls afternoon at the Bourne Bowls Club. They competed in several bowling challenges, including the Spoon Drive, which was won by Sue Secrett of Castle Green Bowls Club, with Liz Hind of Headley Bowls Club coming a close second, the Powder Puff, which was won by Jackie Cavanagh of Odiham Bowls Club, and the ‘ladybird’ (or ‘spider’), which was won by Sue Haw of Frensham Bowls Club. As well as the bowling, the ladies also enjoyed fruit punch at half time and a cream tea at the end. Raffle tickets were on sale throughout the afternoon and there were plenty of winners! A ‘Champagne Raffle’ for a bottle of champagne and two champagne flutes was also held, and was won by a member of the Bourne Bowls Club.

“We would like to thank the Bourne Bowls Club for this wonderful donation, and for supporting Phyllis Tuckwell through their ‘Powder Puff’ day for the last seven years,” said Leanne Magee, Community Fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell. “£709 could pay for nearly a week’s worth of physiotherapy sessions from one of our highly qualified physiotherapists, whose expert support and advice can help patients to live their lives as fully as possible as their illness progresses.”

“We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part in the ‘Powder Puff’ day and all those who donated raffle prizes,” said Shirley Tilley of Bourne Bowls Club. “We are so pleased to have raised such a great amount for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care, which is such an important local charity.” To find out more about Phyllis Tuckwell, visit www.pth.org.uk.
