Social & Therapeutic Horticulture
As part of our Living Well services, Therapy Through Nature sessions have been introduced into our Occupational Therapy at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice and the Beacon Centre. At the core of Therapy Through Nature activities are our Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH) sessions. They are designed to help restore energy levels and improve quality of life for patients taking part. Research has shown that gardening, or even simply spending time surrounded by nature, can measurably reduce stress levels and improve wellbeing. As well as offering these proven benefits, Phyllis Tuckwell’s STH sessions also provide normalisation, giving patients a chance to get away from their illnesses and join in with an activity which they used to enjoy before they became ill.
