Hospice Home Support

As part of Phyllis Tuckwell’s drive to strengthen support available to patients at home, and provide much needed support for their families, we offer Hospice Home Support (HHS).

HHS provides volunteer support to patients and their families in their own homes. Living with a terminal illness can cause anxiety and stress and home can become a lonely place. HHS volunteers can visit for up to 3 hours a week and help with many things including:

  • Giving you someone to talk to
  • Help with hospital/GP appointments
  • Accompanying on outings
  • Giving you a carer a few hours break

A HHS volunteer is often described as a “good friend” by many of the HHS patients – someone who will just sit and listen.

The HHS volunteers work closely with Phyllis Tuckwell’s Community Nurse Specialists and Patient & Family Support team to provide a seamless service, dedicated to supporting patients and their families at an extremely difficult point in their lives.

If you’d like to help and are interested in becoming a Hospice Home Support volunteer, please see our Volunteering page for an application form or email voluntary.services@pth.org.uk
