Turn your daily dog walks into Hospice Care, with Phyllis Tuckwell’s September Walkies Challenge.
This important local charity is inviting dog owners to get sponsored to walk a total of 100k over the month of September, to help fund the vital supportive and end of life care which it offers to local patients and families living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer or motor neurone disease.
Once you’ve registered, Phyllis Tuckwell will send you a fundraising pack, which will include a sponsorship form which you and your dog can use to get your friends to sponsor you. It will also contain a tracker on which you can mark off your walkies over the month, to keep a note of how far you’ve both walked. Once you’ve raised £15, Phyllis Tuckwell will send you a branded bandana for your dog – but don’t stop there, as every penny you raise will help provide much-needed medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support for those who really need it.
As the NHS/Government only cover 25% of Phyllis Tuckwell’s costs, it has to raise over £25,000 every single day to be able to offer all its services, which are given free of charge to its patients and their families. £15 could pay for an hour’s care from its bereavement team, supporting the families and carers of its patients when their loved one has died. £50 could pay for two hours’ care from one of its nurses, who provide compassionate nursing care for its patients and important emotional support for their families too. £100 could pay for four hours’ care from one of its physiotherapists, who help patients improve their quality of life and remain as independent as possible through all the stages of their illness. You could also buy yourself a Phyllis Tuckwell t-shirt too, to match your dog’s bandana and boost your fundraising even more!
Entry is free, and all of the money you raise will go towards helping Phyllis Tuckwell to continue providing its vital supportive and end of life care for local patients and families who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer.
