Phyllis Tuckwell’s Farncombe shop is a real hub for the local community. Nestled in the heart of the village, it sells a wonderful array of quality, preloved items, all at low prices. Its volunteers are always on hand to chat to and help its customers, and know many of them by name. It is currently looking for more volunteers, so maybe you could join its team?

“There’s a real community feel in our Farncombe shop,” says Barry Young, head of retail at Phyllis Tuckwell. “Local residents often pop in for a natter and to have a browse through the latest items on sale. People are always dropping off unwanted items for us to sell, so there are different things on the shelves every day.”
As a volunteer, you’ll take and sort through new donations, price stock ready to be sold, and chat to and serve customers. It's a social role and you’ll meet new people every day, get to know the community, and really feel that you’re making a difference.
“Every day, Phyllis Tuckwell supports over 250 local patients, relatives and carers who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer,” says Barry. “However, as the NHS/Government only cover 25% of our costs, we have to raise over £25,000 every single day to do this, and our shops help hugely with this.”
Phyllis Tuckwell provides palliative and end of life care on its In-Patient Unit, through its Living Well sessions and in patients’ own homes and care homes. It has 18 shops, located across West Surrey and North-East Hampshire, which sell a range of good quality preloved items that have been donated by its generous supporters, including clothes, shoes, accessories, books, DVDs, games and household items, all at low prices.
All of Phyllis Tuckwell’s volunteers are offered ongoing support and training to enable them to learn and develop within their role. If you have a few hours to spare and would like to join a friendly and welcoming team, helping a vital local cause, then this could be just the thing for you!
