Jurassic Coast Walk Supports Hospice Care

A group of around 25 fundraisers will be walking 30 miles along the Jurassic coast, from Swanage to Weymouth beach, in memory of their close friend Terry, who was cared for by Phyllis Tuckwell. The walk will take place on Saturday 1st June and will celebrate Terry’s life, as well as raising money to help Phyllis Tuckwell to continue providing its vital supportive and end of life care to those who need its help.

Terry was cared for by Phyllis Tuckwell.

Although Terry was not blood-related, he was very much part of our family,” said his close friend, Gary. “He was like another father figure to my children, Dale and Nicole - they loved him and appreciated everything he did for them.

When Terry was diagnosed with stage four cancer, he came to live with me and my wife Lorraine, until he sadly passed away on January 5th. It was an absolute privilege to care for and support him. He was really very special in so many ways and was loved by everyone.

Terry was cared for by local Hospice Care charity Phyllis Tuckwell, which provides supportive and end of life care for patients, families and carers who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer. The walkers are hoping to raise an amazing £10,000. Fundraising challenges such as this are so important to Phyllis Tuckwell, as the NHS/Government usually only covers about 20% of its costs, meaning that it has to raise over £25,000 a day to be able to provide its care.

Thank you so much to Gary and all those taking part in this huge walk,” said Samantha West, community fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell. “Every day we support over 250 patients, relatives and carers, through medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support, and we are very grateful to Gary and everyone who is taking part in this walk, and all those who have sponsored them, for choosing to raise money to support this care.

Please help us

All our services are free, but this is only possible due to the generosity of our amazing community. The Government/NHS only provide 25% of our costs, so we need to raise over £25,000 every day to provide our vital services.

Please donate what you can to help keep hospice care available to all those in our community who need us.
