Celebrate Fathers’ Day with a Countryside Walk or Run

Celebrate Father's Day with loved ones at Phyllis Tuckwell’s sponsored Walk for the Wards and Run for the Wards events, which will once again be held on the stunning Hampton Estate near Seale.

Walkers and Runners enjoyed last year’s events at the new location of the Hampton Estate near Seale.

The Walk and Run will take place on Sunday 16th June, which is Fathers’ Day. They are a lovely way for families to celebrate this special day together, or for those whose dads or someone special to them are no longer with us, to walk or run with friends and family in their memory.

Participants can register for a 5 or 10 mile route, both of which will take them through some of the most beautiful countryside in the local area. The 2000-acre Hampton Estate includes parkland, meadows, grassland, heathland, chalk downland and woodlands, and is home to deer, songbirds, butterflies, red kites, buzzards and the Hampton herd of pedigree Sussex cows! The Estate have kindly opened up some of their private land for the event, offering participants a unique opportunity to explore parts of the local area which they would not otherwise be able to access.

Runners will start at 9.15am and walkers will set off shortly afterwards, at 9.30am. Registration is now open, and all who complete their walk or run will be offered a free ice cream at the end! You can even bring your four-legged friend along, as dogs are welcome (on a lead).

“We’re delighted to be returning to the stunning Hampton Estate for our Walk for the Wards and Run for the Wards events this year,” said Ruth Masters, head of fundraising at Phyllis Tuckwell. “We would like to say a big thank you to Bill & Bridget Biddell for inviting us back to hold these events again on the Hampton Estate, and also to Clifton Ingram solicitors who are kindly sponsoring these events.”

Run for the Wards was launched last year as a new addition to the popular annual Walk, and was enjoyed by local runners and running clubs. Phyllis Tuckwell is pleased to have been able to open the event up to runners and hope that even more will take the opportunity to run one of these two lovely routes this year.

The Hampton Estate is located between Puttenham and Seale, just south of the A31. Early Bird entry fees for walkers, is £10 for adults and £4 for children aged 14 & under. All participants are encouraged to get sponsored. The Early Bird entry fee for runners is £10 for those raising money through sponsorship and £20 for those who aren’t. Early Bird prices are only available until Monday 6th May, so register soon! All of the money raised through both registration fees and sponsorship will go directly towards helping fund the supportive and end of life care that Phyllis Tuckwell provides for local patients and families living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer or motor neurone disease. As the NHS/Government usually only covers about 20% of its costs, it has to raise over £25,000 a day to provide its care, which is why events such as this are so important.

Please help us

All our services are free, but this is only possible due to the generosity of our amazing community. The Government/NHS only provide 25% of our costs, so we need to raise over £25,000 every day to provide our vital services.

Please donate what you can to help keep hospice care available to all those in our community who need us.
