This innovative day-long course is designed especially for care home staff by the UCL Partners End of Life Team. The day will follow Lily's story, while exploring a range of issues that may be experienced at end of life.
A grant from Hospice UK and the Wolfson Foundation has enabled us to deliver this at no cost to the care homes in the Phyllis Tuckwell catchment area.

Course aims
- To support care home staff to deliver best practice end of life care for residents with dementia in their final months, weeks and days of life.
Learning outcomes
- The Education team at Phyllis Tuckwell will use their expertise to support learning in this topic to include:
- Compassionate care of a resident with dementia and those important to the resident.
- Communication and documentation of wishes/recommendations on what to do should the resident deteriorate.
- The importance of using this documentation in a situation when the resident deteriorates, to avoid a hospital admission.
- Recognition when a resident with dementia is reaching the last days of life.
- Communication with the resident, those important to the resident, and other staff in the last days of life.
- Compassionate care in the last days of life.
