Staff from care home Gracewell of Camberley have raised over £2,200 for local Hospice Care charity Phyllis Tuckwell, by taking on the Nuts challenge. The team was made up of eight members of staff, from the company’s management, administration and care teams.

The Nuts challenge is a 7k muddy assault course obstacle race which participants complete in laps, raising money for charities which are close to their hearts. They can choose the number of laps they want to complete, and so can do 7k, 14k, 21k or even 28k in total, finishing the race exhausted and covered from head to toe in mud!

“We wanted to raise money for Phyllis Tuckwell as they have provided support, advice and training to staff from Gracewell of Camberley, as well as caring for many of our residents,” said Jeorgia Jones, Home Admissions Advisor at Gracewell of Camberley. “Some of us have also had relatives who have received hospice care, and so this was also a personal fundraising challenge for us. We completed the 7k mud run and obstacle course, which included over 100 obstacles, in two hours and 50 minutes, which we are very pleased with, as the Nuts challenge has been voted the UK’s toughest and muddiest course!”

“We would like to thank everyone at Gracewell of Camberley for taking on the Nuts challenge to raise money to help fund our care,” said Charli Quay-Barnham, Community Fundraising Manager at Phyllis Tuckwell. “£2,200 could pay for nearly three week’s care from one of our Occupational Therapists, who help patients remain as independent as possible and improve their quality of life. They may suggest pieces of equipment which will help with everyday life, adaptions to the home to help keep patients mobile, or teach coping strategies to help patients and their carers manage fatigue, anxiety or breathlessness.”
