Christmas at Phyllis Tuckwell 2020
The Coronavirus pandemic is still affecting every aspect of our care, and Christmas will be very different for us and our patients this year. We are now facing the toughest winter we have seen in our 40 year history, and we need your help to get through it. Please give what you can today to our Christmas Appeal and help us make this Christmas special for our patients and their families.
The last nine months have seen us face – and overcome – challenges which we never dreamt we would have to deal with. But it has not stopped us from providing compassionate care to those in our community who need us most – and by adapting the way we offer our care, we are still supporting each and every one of our patients and their family members.
This Christmas will be very different for all of us, but we’ll still do everything we can to bring festive joy to our patients and their families.
Our IPU never closes, and it will continue to remain open 24/7 throughout the festive season, caring for, supporting and comforting patients and families when they need us most. Our Care at Home team will continue to visit patients and families in their own homes, wearing PPE for each visit and providing the specialist nursing care and support that they need. As our usual Day Hospice sessions can’t take place at the moment, our Living Well team have been phoning and video calling our patients, and making doorstep visits to drop off specialist equipment and Resource packs, containing goodies such as tea, coffee, biscuits and complementary therapy oils and lotions. We’ve also set up virtual groups, bringing staff, patients and families together, sharing tips to improve wellbeing, and combatting the loneliness and isolation that will only get worse as winter approaches. Reaching out to our patients and their families may be harder since Coronavirus hit the UK, but that won’t stop us. If anything, we’re even more determined to be there for them, because they need us now more than ever.
We need your help to be able to continue to offer end-of-life care to those who need it; both over the festive period and beyond. You must think of and care for yourself and your family first – of course. But, having done so if you can make a donation to our Christmas appeal I guarantee your generosity will immediately support those in our community who need our care.
As an independent charity, we have to raise over £20,000 every day so that we can continue to offer supportive and end of life care to those who need it – in their homes, at the Hospice in Farnham and at the Beacon Centre in Guildford. Visit www.pth.org.uk/Christmas or call 01252 729446 to give whatever you can, and help patients and their families spend some special time together this Christmas…because everyday is precious.
Thank you and wishing you a very Happy Christmas and Peaceful New Year.
