Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care has received more than £40,000 over the last two years from local estate agents Bridges, who partnered with the charity in 2016.
Over the two years, staff at Bridges have raised money through various fundraising events and activities, including charity football matches, an awards and quiz night at Oak Park Golf Course, and the Smarties challenge, in which staff take home tubes of Smarties, eat the chocolate, fill the tubes with £1 coins and return them for the money to be given to Phyllis Tuckwell. All of these generous donations help fund the supportive and end of life care which Phyllis Tuckwell offers to adult patients and families who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer, in West Surrey and North East Hampshire.
Bridges have also sponsored three of the cars used by Phyllis Tuckwell’s Hospice Care at Home team, who visit patients who have chosen to spend their last days, and to die, in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes. Care from Phyllis Tuckwell is increasingly provided to patients away from the Hospice and Beacon Centre buildings, and these cars allow nurses to travel to patients’ homes, care homes and community hospitals. As well as medical and nursing care, Phyllis Tuckwell also provides therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support for its patients and their families, but as the NHS/Government only covers 20% of its costs, it has to raise over £20,000 a day, and therefore relies heavily on the support and generosity of local businesses and individuals.
“It has been a fabulous two years and we would like to thank all of the staff at Bridges who have helped organise and taken part in the many fundraising activities which have helped to generate this fantastic amount of money,” said Nick Adams, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Phyllis Tuckwell. “We are very excited about the coming year and look forward to seeing lots of Bridges staff taking part in our Bubble Rush on 17th June.”
“It’s been a very rewarding relationship, and all the more poignant because the staff at Bridges can see day-to-day in the immediate community what we are all working towards – whether it’s friends or family touched by Phyllis Tuckwell directly, or the nurses’ cars on the road – it truly has brought us closer with our community – long may it continue,” said Carlo Stocchetti, Group Managing Director at Bridges Estate Agents.
