Local charity Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care has recently had the sponsorship of three of its Hospice Care at Home cars renewed by local estate agent Bridges.
Bridges first sponsored the cars for three years after becoming a corporate partner of Phyllis Tuckwell in 2016. Since then have donated over £64,000 to help fund the supportive and end of life care which Phyllis Tuckwell offers to local patients and families who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer, and have recently announced that they will be extending the car sponsorship for another three years.
These cars are hugely important to Phyllis Tuckwell, as they are used by its Hospice Care at Home nursing team to visit patients who have chosen to spend their last days, and to die, in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes. The care which Phyllis Tuckwell offers is increasingly provided to patients away from the Hospice and Beacon Centre, allowing them to receive Hospice Care in their own homes, or in a care home or community hospital.
The money which Bridges has donated over the three years comprises partly direct company donations and partly money which has been raised by Bridges staff. From taking part in sponsored skydives to trekking the Six Peaks Challenge, they have given their time, energy and commitment to help raise money for this vital local cause. Bridges also partnered with Phyllis Tuckwell to help organise a celebrity soccer match earlier this year, which raised a huge £12,000, enough to cover the cost of one of Phyllis Tuckwell’s nurses for three months.
“We are very grateful to Bridges for donating this huge amount of money to help fund our care,” said Nick Adams, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Phyllis Tuckwell. “It’s fantastic to know that our Hospice Care at Home cars have been sponsored for another three years, and we would like to thank Bridges’ staff for organising and taking part in the many fundraising activities which have helped to generate this money.”
“We are delighted to continue our support for Phyllis Tuckwell,” said Tony Raffermati, Chairman of Bridges Estate Agents. “Helping their fabulous nurses to reach patients at home is something that has special significance to me, as my father spent his last days in our family home. Being able to help these amazing nurses to visit patients at home makes me feel both proud and humble. I’m sure my Dad would be proud too. I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all the staff at Bridges as well for the way they have engaged in our partnership with Phyllis Tuckwell. They have raised thousands over the last few years and continue to commit to sponsorship efforts for this amazing cause.”
Phyllis Tuckwell provides medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support for its patients and their families, but as the NHS/Government only covers 20% of its costs, it has to raise over £20,000 a day to do this, and therefore relies heavily on the support and generosity of local businesses and individuals.
