Festive Runs Help Hospice Care

Festive Runs Help Hospice Care

If you’re already feeling festive, then what better way to get into the Christmas spirit than by signing up for one of Phyllis Tuckwell’s Santa & Rudolph Fun Runs. Register now to secure your spot, and get friends, family and work colleagues to sponsor you to take on the challenge, wherever you live!

The Fun Runs will take place in three different venues across Surrey and Hampshire, so you can choose your nearest – or your favourite. Pick from a 3.5km route around the beautiful Devil’s Punch Bowl in Hindhead on Sunday 26th November 2017, a 4k run around Broadwater Park in Godalming on Saturday 9th December, or two laps (approx. 5km) of Queens Avenue Playing Fields in Aldershot on Sunday 10th December.

These Runs are a lively and hugely enjoyable way to help local Hospice Care charity Phyllis Tuckwell support local patients and families who are living with a terminal illness, such as cancer. Everyone is welcome – including dogs (on a lead) – and you can run, jog or walk at whatever pace you feel comfortable with.

“Every day we support over 250 patients and relatives,” says Fiona Chapman, Events Fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell, “but as the NHS/Government only covers 20% of our costs, we have to raise over £20,000 a day to do this. These Fun Runs are a fantastic way for people to get involved and help us hit this target. Last year they raised £21,000 – enough to cover the costs of providing our Day Services for a fortnight, offering patients a weekly visit to the Hospice or Beacon Centre where they can access medical and nursing care, see a physiotherapist or occupational therapist, receive complementary therapies or join in with a therapy group, speak to a counsellor or chaplain, spend time in the chapel or gardens, and enjoy a social lunch with other patients.

All three Fun Runs start at 11am. Visit www.pth.org.uk/event-diary or call 01252 729446 to register. Registration costs £14 for adults and £7 for children (u14), and includes a Santa suit for adults and reindeer antlers with a red nose for children – helping you to really get into the Christmas spirit! There will also be a goody bag and a medal for everyone who completes the course.
